Our First Draft Series is a program designed to support new works in their earliest stages of development. These mini workshops offer playwrights and devising teams a structured environment to explore, rehearse, and share their work with collaborators and audiences, focusing on the creative process rather than formal production.
First Draft Series:
Provides 29 hours of rehearsal and creative time, typically spread over 3-5 days, culminating in a reading or presentation of the work.
Focuses on script exploration, dialogue refinement, and narrative development, allowing artists to workshop ideas with professional actors and a director.
Can conclude with a low-pressure presentation for an invited audience of peers, industry professionals, and community members, followed by a facilitated feedback session.
What sets the First Draft Series apart:
Development-Centric Approach: Designed to help artists test early concepts, refine scripts, and make creative discoveries without the pressure of a finished product.
Professional Support: Features experienced directors, dramaturgs, and actors who bring the work to life during the rehearsal process, giving creators a chance to hear their work aloud.
Prioritization of Marginalized Voices: Focuses on amplifying underrepresented stories and artists, ensuring diverse perspectives are at the forefront.
Integration with TLTC’s Ecosystem: Works developed through the series may be considered for further exploration in Liminal Labs or full production on TLTC’s mainstage.
Audience Engagement: Invites audiences into the creative process as active participants, offering feedback that helps shape the future of the work.
The First Draft Series is a bridge between the page and the stage, providing a vital opportunity for artists to experiment and grow while staying true to TLTC’s mission of cultivating transformative, socially conscious storytelling.
