  • Virtual Auditions for Hayati – 29-Hour Reading

The Liminal Theatre Collective (TLTC) is seeking actors for a 29-hour reading of Hayati, a new play by Leah Mijalski-Fahim, directed by TLTC’s Founding Artistic Director, Azudi Onyejekwe. This reading is part of our inaugural First Draft Series, designed to support the early development of new works through collaboration and feedback.

Synopsis: Over the course of a dinner, three generations of the Wahid family sit for their weekly reunion at an Arabic restaurant. While the night starts casually, it progresses into something out of the ordinary. Nothing can be swept under the rug and kept there forever. It is left to each family member to decide how to get through the night, while grasping to preserve what is left of their rocky relationships.

We are seeking Union and Non-Union actors based in NYC for the following roles:

SELMA: Middle Eastern, 17, strong-minded, driven daughter. Passionate about the mind and empathetic towards others, but does not grant herself the same generosity.

TARIK: Middle Eastern, 20, supportive brother and fearful son, athletic, suffering from a soccer injury. Has a secret that he is still grappling to accept.

BABA (AHMED): Middle Eastern, 56, narrow-minded, struggles with empathy. Has experienced the “American Dream” and expects the same success from his children.

MAMA (MONA): Middle Eastern, 53, obedient wife, tries her best to understand her children. Knows what needs to change in her family, but has trouble confronting it.

GEDO (AWAD): Middle Eastern, 85, father of Ahmed, caring grandfather, old fashioned, old age is catching up to him.

TETA (NADIA): Middle Eastern, 73, mother of Ahmed, energetic, caring grandmother, old fashioned.

ANDREW: Middle Eastern, 18, overly friendly waiter, seeks validation from his customers. Copes with his hardships by giving more effort than people give him.

Rehearsal Dates: Rehearsals will take place on April 19th (10am-5pm), 22nd (10am-5pm), 23rd (10am-5pm), 25th (10am-5pm), and 26th (12pm-2pm), with a one-hour meal/break time included on each rehearsal day. Attendance at all rehearsals is mandatory.
